# SMS Basics

## Sender Name

The GSM standard for sender name specifies that it should be between 3 and 11 characters long, and can only contain A-Z, a-z, and 0-9. Although it may be possible to use fewer than 3 characters or other characters, Wiraya does not recommend this and will not take responsibility for any issues that arise.

## Characters and SMS length

We support GSM 03.38 and UCS-2 character sets for sending SMS messages. A message sent using the GSM 03.38 character set can contain up to 160 characters for the first SMS. If the message contains more than 160 characters, each subsequent SMS can only contain 153 characters each (including the first SMS).

Messages sent with the UCS-2 encoding and Unicode character set can contain up to 70 characters for the first SMS. If the message contains more than 70 characters, each subsequent SMS can only contain 67 characters each.

Phone number

The phone number format should be in MSISDN format, which consists of the country code, national destination code, and subscriber number. For example, 46737072337. Please do not include any starting zeros or "+" signs.
